Default Sheffield and Mitutoyo parts

Sheffield read heads. $1k each obo.

I have 3 complete read heads in perfect working condition. Good glass, bulbs, electronics etc. Still in the Sheffield brackets actually. They were removed from machine in order to replace the scales with renishaw tape scales.

Also, if anyone is interested I have an older Mitutoyo CMMC-1 controller and joybox as well. Best offer.

I replied to this when the board was dragging it's butt last week and it looks like it never got posted, sorry for the delay in replying.

That's a good price for refurb'd heads, a customer of mine got a new "old stock" one for $1850 USD from Hexagon about year ago.

Anyway, the price is OBO so if anyone is interested or needs one feel free to make me an offer. They are in great condition and I'm not really very attached to them as I rarely work on Sheffield's anymore.

Updated price, $1500 for all three. Firm.

Mitutoyo controller is semi-spoken for but not firm.

Kelly took the Mitutoyo controller. Glad it could find a home that could use it!

Sheffield readers up on ebay right now for $1000 for all three. That's about as low as I'll go on them though, other wise I'll wait for the occasional customer that needs one and sell them as they are needed. Good deal if someone who works on a lot of Sheffield machines needs them. They look like brand new.

Hi

Can you tell me more about the renishaw tape scales?

I have an old Cordax IV that no longer works, but I do not have the free cash to go on a shopping spree. I would like to put some sort of current scales on the machine and make it useful again. The X and Y axis are easy, but I cannot figure out how to get a glass scale setup attached to the Z axis. Not enough room anywhere.

BTW -- I have all three reader heads and the lights still work. I have two of the readout boxes, but between the two of them I could not manage to get three axis that work.

I would be more the happy to part with all the parts in exchange for a 3 axis readout system that is adaptable to this machine.

Thanks

Tim

I think it might be easiest to keep the sheffield scales, Get an after market encoder box and add the non-CAD Manual version of CMM Manager. You can use about any decent current PC to run the software or buy one on eBay for $125.

Your cost for everything would be very low in the scheme of things.

You would also need to get the CMM calibrated.

If the Sheffield scales and read heads are still functioning you get get aftermarket encoder boxes from Caliper Designs in the US.

Their kit is around $1500-2000 for all three boxes. CMM Manager works excellently with this setup, I've done the retrofit before in a day including reshooting the axis linears with the laser system.

Hebron,

Did you ever bring that Cordax IV back to life? Do you still have plans for it?
